Wheaton, Ill. (10/2) – Wheaton College senior Chris Fossum has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Football “Player of the Week” on offense and teammate Shane Woodward has been recognized as the CCIW “Player of the Week” for defense. Fossum and Woodward earned their honors for their efforts in Wheaton 's 20-7 victory at Millikin last Saturday. Wheaton is now 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in CCIW play and ranked 20th in the most recent D3Football.com Top 25 Poll.

Fossum caught five passes at Millikin for 144 yards, with two touchdown catches. The senior caught a 51-yard pass in the end zone with 14:15 remaining in the second quarter to give the guests a 14-0 lead. He then helped solidify the victory with a stellar 23-yard touchdown catch as he rambled over his defender and into the end zone to give Wheaton a 20-0 lead with 9:08 left in the game.

Fossum currently leads Wheaton and the CCIW in receiving yards with 396 yards on the year, averaging 99 receiving yards per game. He has caught 21 passes, averaging 18.9 yards per catch with four touchdown receptions.

Woodward, a sophomore safety for the Thunder, recorded six total tackles, including four solo hits in the victory at Millikin. He also defended two Big Blue passes with one pass broken-up and an interception that he returned for 26 yards. Woodward helped key a Thunder defense that held Millikin to 240 yards of offense, including just 62 rushing yards and contained the Big Blue to 3-of-13 on third down conversions.
